BUILDING INFORMATION MODELING

BIM stands for ‘Building Information Modeling’ (or Model) and represents an integrated approach to construction projects and the design and presentation of this in a virtual building model. This model includes all relevant information, such as drawings, calculations, specifications, materials lists and planning. BIM has since become an umbrella term to cover many aspects.

WHAT IS BIM?

BIM stands for ‘Building Information Modelling’. It represents the process of collecting all information of a construction process in one summarized model for presentation in a virtual building model. This model includes all relevant information, such as drawings, calculations, specifications, materials lists and planning. To make this process work properly, all concerned parties need to work according to one code/standard. Barcol-Air follows the European MEPcontent Standard (EMCS), developed by Stabiplan which makes sure that all processed models of different parties are build according to uniform parameters, codes, geometry and connections around the whole of Europe. The EMCS standard matches the international IFC standard.

Barcol-Air and BIM

As a producer of air distribution products, Barcol-Air is involved in the BIM process. Until now we have made 90% of our products BIM-ready which are all downloadable at:

www.barcol-airproducts.com and www.mepcontent.eu. Our BIM partner is Stabiplan, a company with over 20 years of experience and a true BIM specialist with a strategy focusing on the future. Their Stabicad software enables an engineer to design, visualise, control and optimise technical installations with a sophisticated and future proof design. This contributes to an effective development, management and installation process, which results in cost savings and quality

THE BENEFITS OF BIM

  • With a shared model, there’s less need for rework and duplication of drawings for the different requirements of building disciplines. This lowers construction costs by a lot.

  • Improves construction time and constructing within the time frames. Normally one delay will cause the following delay and so on.

  • Maintain control and overview. The BIM model contains more information than a normal drawing set, allowing each discipline to annotate and connect their intelligence to the project, before during and after the project.

  • Simulation of a BIM developed building will give many insights that will benefit in every way.

  • Consistency in the drawings (the maps correspond with the cross sections, façades and different details)

  • Improved control of the process and production: prefabrication possibilities and 'just in time'deliveries at site.

  • Improve Collaboration. Sharing and collaborating with models is easier than with drawing sets, as there are a lot of functions that are possible only through a digital workflow. Much of this added project-management functionality is now being delivered in the cloud.

  • No or less surprises
