Service

Everybody knows the importance of Service; however most Service on a HVAC installation is limited to the mechanical part. In general this part of the installation is maintained regularly, like changing filters, tightening of v-belts,cleaning and painting.Service & Onderhoud

Periodical maintenance:

To maintain the performance of a HVAC installation within specification, regular maintenance on the mechanical part of the installation is necessary. Controls installations need frequent check-up and modifications as a result of changes (internal moving) too. To Barcol-Air’s philosophy both aspects of a HVAC installation are equally important.

Thermal comfort:

The purpose of a HVAC installation is to realize and maintain an optimal thermal comfort for the users. It has been proved in various scientific studies, that a good thermal indoor climate is important and has a positive influence on the (mental) performance of human beings. Regular maintenance of the complete HVAC installation, both the mechanical and controls part including the DDC controls mounted on VAV boxes, Fan coil units, etc., guarantees a reliable installation with a long life span and optimized energy use.

After installation:

During the construction or renovation of a building’s HVAC installation, the controls installation is installed, tested and commissioned. Since total time, from design until delivery, can take 3 to 5 years, needs and demands of the actual users are often different in comparison with the original design. Most of the necessary changes cannot be implemented during construction.Besides the building can change a lot during the first year of use. All these changes result in adjustments of mechanical parts of the installation, like moving a VAV box to another room or connecting a diffuser to another unit. Experience shows that the necessary changes are not executed in the controls installation and insufficiently on the mechanical installation.

This can result in:

  • Incorrect position and set-up of diffusers
  • Incorrect minimum and/or maximum air volumes
  • Thermostat mounted on the wrong place or in the wrong room
  • Incorrect master/slave connections
  • Incorrect water flows for cooling and/or reheat coils

This can lead to user complaints about the indoor climate, like high or low room temperature and draft or staleness as a result of not enough fresh outside air. A regular check-up of the controls installation based on a service contract prevents all these complaints.

HC Barcol-Air offers 5 different service activities:

1. Call out Service

To solve malfunction of the controls installation as well as air distribution products like fan coil units and air dampers, contact our Service coordinator and a Service engineer will come to solve the problem.

2. Controls Service contracts

This Service is controls specific and is offered to the mechanical contractor, who maintains the complete HVAC installation, or directly to the building owner or manager. In general our Service Engineers are involved in installing, testing and commissioning new installations and are skilled to perform quick and efficient maintenance and to solve malfunctions of the installation. This guarantees the reliability of the installation.

3. Renovation and up-grade Service

The average life span of the mechanical part of a HVAC installation is 25 – 30 years. The life span of the controls installation, including DDC controls, is 10 – 15 years. This means that at least once in the life span of HVAC installations the controls installations need to be upgraded or renewed. Barcol-Air B.V. is specialized in upgrading controls installations and renewal of local controls including airflow measuring devises.

4. End of warranty check up

Barcol-Air offers their customers a “free” check up on the controls installation at the end of the warranty period. In general this is 1 year after handover. During this inspection the controls installation and the DDC controls are functionally tested and checked. There will be an evaluation with the building contractor and building manager about user complaints regarding the thermal indoor climate. Our findings will be collected in a report, which will provide the building manager a complete overview of the functioning of the HVAC installation. This report includes our suggestions to solve the reported bottlenecks and problems.

5. Judgment of thermal indoor climate

Barcol-Air B.V. is also your partner for a judgment of the thermal indoor climate. The main purpose of a HVAC installation is realization of the desired indoor climate. Therefore a proper functioning controls installation and good air distribution is essential. Judgment of the thermal indoor climate includes the following aspects:

  • Evaluation of user complaints regarding the indoor climate
  • Smoke tests
  • Temperature measurements
  • Air flow measurements
  • Functional check of DDC controls
  • Short interviews with users
  • Location and functioning check of the thermostats

According to this data a report is draft with recommendations to bring the thermal indoor climate to the desired level, for all building users to perform at their best.

Summary:

The main purpose of Barcol-Air Service is to keep the HVAC installation performing according to the customer’s specifications by regular inspections and maintenance, primarily for the controls installation. Judgment of the thermal indoor climate guarantees an optimal working environment.
